Conference Report 2017

Traditionally, biennially, Yuzhnoye SDO holds the international conference “Space Technologies: Present and Future”. This conference became the sixth and gathered about 500 scientists and specialists from 21 world countries:Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Great Britain, Germany, Mexico, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, United States, France, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Sweden, etc. In the course of the conference, 295 papers were heard at six scientific sessions. The papers were devoted to the solution of urgent problems such as the development and manufacture of launch vehicles, spacecraft, ground launch complexes, liquid-propellant rocket engines and solid-propellant rocket motors; advanced material technologies; humanitarian issues of space exploration.

For the first time in its history, the conference took place on the premises of our enterprise as the leading space enterprise of Ukraine.

The conference was held under the aegis of the IAA and was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Stanislav Nikolayevich Konyukhov, an outstanding scientist, engineer and designer in aerospace. Before the plenary meeting was declared open, the conference participants watched a film titled the General Designer’s Mission, dedicated to this anniversary.

Mikhail Bondar, Acting General Director, opened the conference. He welcomed the participants and expressed optimism about the conference’s success.

Round tables were held on the topics “Materials and Technologies”, “Creation of Industrial and Research Lunar Base” within the framework of the conference. Meetings of the youth with Arthur Dula, trustee of the Robert A. and Virginia Heinlein Prize Trust, took place. High-quality organization of the conference and friendly creative atmosphere made it possible to hold a top-level conference. Foreign guests highly appreciated the conference proceedings.

In followup of the conference, session coordinators selected the best papers for publication in the NASU journal.
